FC BEERCELONA v INTER MI-LAGER MATCH REPORT

The yellows got the game under way with two of the ‘Hatton Garden Crew' majestically moving the ball to their own defence before being swiftly substituted-a performance which left them as serious candidates for players of the day.

The early stages of the game saw lots of Beercelona possession, with some nice touches although no real chances were created. Meanwhile, Inter were causing some problems down Barcelona’s right-hand side, this was soon nullified once Malcy Rock N Roll subbed himself.

The game sprung into life in the 10th minute when the ball was cleared from another Beercelona attack, however it fell kindly to young Jacob Lee, who with his first touch after replacing Malc, sweetly struck a 35 yard volley that whistled into the top right hand corner. One nil to Beercelona.

More woes came Inter’s way, when the superb Luke Schnell latched onto some poor defensive play, and deliciously chipped the keeper from 15 yards out: sending the Beercelona fans wild with delirium. 2 nil.

After a neat one-two from Inter's Linny and referee, Keil O'Brien (yes, you’ve read that right)-rolling subs were now starting to affect the game, and Barcelona’s once sturdy back four was now a back two. Inter were making creating opportunities, but for some great goalkeeping and a last ditch tackle, Inter would have pulled one back. However, Beercelona were finally punished for their defensive frailties when Inter were put clean through on a 2 on 1 situation. No mistakes were made when the ball was put on a plate for Max who neatly finished. 2 – 1 to Beercelona.

Inter's goal spurred the Beercelona’s management: defensive stallwart, Jonah was re-introduced to sure up the back four. The slick, passing also returned and Beercelona were pushing for a 3rd. Some wayward finishing and decent defending from Inter managed to keep them at bay. That all changed just before half time, when a free-flowing move resulted in Lucas; Beercelona’s young, left winger, receiving the ball 7 yards out – faced with two defenders in front of him, he feinted to shoot (which completely bamboozled them), before unleashing a left-footed rocket into the top corner. 3 – 1 Beercelona.

At this point, Inter were hanging on and desperately looking to the ref for the half-time whistle, yet only the crossbar prevented them going in 4 – 1 down, after ANOTHER beautiful move, orchestrated by the splendid DC, ended at the feet of Lucas and his effort from just inside the area, smashed the crossbar and out to safety. The half-time whistle sounded. Beercelona 3 Inter Mi-lager 1.

Beercelona started the 2nd half like a team possessed. Wave of attack after attack led to an all important 4th goal when the attack broke clear, a shot ricocheted to the feet of James Hall who finished confidently into an empty net. 4 – 1 Beercelona.

By now, Inter were on the ropes. If it was a boxing fight, the referee would surely have put them out of their misery. But no, this referee had other ideas, he would suspiciously throw them a life-line. The outstand DC was exquisitely put through on goal before volleying in from 18 yards. With no-one appealing for offside, and the liners flag staying down, celebrations were cut short as Keil ruled the goal offside from his excellent position of the half-way line! Further controversy ensued shortly after when Inter were gifted a penalty out of nothing. Cassidy, the excellent Beercelona keeper, picked up the ball ahead of the advancing attacker only for the ref to blow for a penalty, to the utter dismay of the Beercelona players and fans.
Not letting the fury of the crowd get to him, up stepped Jack who with the confidence of Eric Cantona, stuck the ball into the keepers' top left corner. Beercelona 4 Inter 2. Game on.

Not long after this, it was noted  by the gaffer of Beercelona, that Inter had 13 players on the pitch. In response, extra cavalry were sent on to ‘even' matters up. This only spurred Inter on. Their managers saw Beercelona’s cavalry and raised and an army: their whole squad was now on. The game quickly became 20 a-side. Space was hard to find and Beercelona were producing shot after shot; all from range. Brookes made one vital save to keep his team in the game after a lush volley was heading for the top corner, only for his superman-esque dive to claw it out of the heavens. At the other end, Inter were causing problems from corners, the drunken ex-proffesional Linny was just coming into his own, and mid-way through the 2nd half, he rose highest at the back stick and guided the ball into the bottom corner. The Beercelona defense immediately looked to the ref as it clearly seemed that Linny had his hands all over the Beercelona defender. Keil ignored the protests and the goal stood. 4 – 3!

Despite 40 players being on the pitch, legs were becoming weary, and the yellows were once again assisted when Beercelona were breaking away only for Keil (the referee), to step in and tackle Glinka, the Beercelona midfielder and pass the ball back to the yellows! More suspicious play occurred when current Trafford player, Jack Dorney; a spectator for the day, was persuaded to put on a yellow shirt and finish the game for Inter Mi-lager!

With 15 minutes on the clock, Inter punted another long, hopeful ball towards the back post. This time Linny fairly outjumped the Beercelona defender and again steered his header into the bottom corner. 4 all.

Beercelona continued to rain shots at the Inter goal, mainly from DC and the impressive Schnell, but more often than not they were off target. The game drew to a close and the final whistle blew without aby further chances. Keil's declaration half-way through the 2nd half that “this is going to pens" came true. Mad how he knew.

Penalties.

First up for Beercelona was young Jacques, who confidently nominated himself to go first. Unfortunately for Jacques and the ball boy, his effort still has come down from the skies. 0 - 0

Inter's fist pen was to be taken by ex-pro, Paul Linwood. Now in the hangover stage of his weekend, calmly struck his penalty in the top corner. 0 – 1

Next up was Jacob Lee, the scorer of that wonder goal that now seemed like hours ago. With the pressure on, he rifled his effort into the back of the net. 1 – 1

Burkey stepped up next for Inter. His short run-up produced a tame effort which was easily saved by Cassidy. 1 – 1

Carl took the next penalty for Beercelona. Lady luck was really on Inter's side when a enormous dragon fly flew into Carl's eye just as he was to make contact with the ball, resulting in a scuffed shot that dribbled the wrong side if the post. 1 – 1

Third for Inter was Muggsy. A long run up led to a well struck penalty just to the right of the keeper. Luckily, a relative of the previously mentioned dragon fly, helped push the ball through Cassidy's hands and into the back of the net. 1 – 2

The 4th penalty for Inter was perfectly placed into the back of the net by Josh. No sign of nerves. 1 – 3

The pressure was now on. ‘Bear' stepped up knowing a miss would mean game over. He confidently approached the ball, swung hard, with the keeper stood motionless, the stadium watched with berated breath as the ball came back after hitting the foot of the post. Victory was Inter Mi-lagers! 1 – 3 on pens.

Despite the controversy of their win, handshakes were exchanged and the supporters cup was presented to Inter captain, Liam Maguire. On a plus note, although their were three injuries: ankles, knees and ribs – the defibrillator was not required! A cracking day was rounded iff with a fair few beers being sunk. Many thanks to all that attended and were involved in the whole day - lots of cash was made for the supporters’ club, but more importantly, many more friends were made.
