FEBRUARY'S POTM RESULT - GRANT SHENTON

As you can see, Grant Shenton just pipped Keil O'Brien to February's Player of the Month Award. Grant now joins Scott Sephton and Mini Mason as double winners for the season whilst Keil has now been nominated 3 times, just missing out on all occasions. Also, a mention must go to Loz, it's not always easy going out on loan but his commitment to Trafford has been spot on, hense his nomination.

So congrats to Shents, who has been fantastic all season and good luck to all the boys in the coming games in March. #playoffpush #upthetrafford #superwhites

20 Questions With... Grant Shenton.

Grant Shenton is an experienced goalkeeper who has previously played for Staylybridge Celtic and Ramsbottom United (where he holds the record for number of appearances). He contributed massively in helping Rammy gain two promotions. 2017/18 is his first season with Trafford where he has been a key member of the team, consistently performing to a high standard.

Shents winning Trafford's POTM for Novemeber.

Andy Glinka asks the questions...

1) You spent a long time at Ramsbottom (playing 279 games) before eventually playing for Staylybridge, how did your move to Trafford come about?
I had always enjoyed playing Trafford when I was at Rammy, with the gaffer showing a keen interest in bringing me in and with the ambitions of the club, it was an easy decision for me to make.

2) Since arriving, what are your opinions on the club?
The club is run very well and to a standard much higher than a lot of clubs at this level and above. Playing on the best pitch at this step and the step above is something I love about playing here. Hats off to Foxy and the gang.

3) "Let's talk about shents..." is a new song the supporters have come up with for you. What are your thoughts on the song and have you had any others made up in your honour?
It is by far the best song the fans sing in my opinion so thanks gents. I had one from a group of young Bury fans who used to watch Rammy midweek and they came up with SHENTON IS SUPERMAN! Belter.

4) Do you see yourself staying in football after you hang up your gloves? If So, in what capacity?
Any lads who have played with me will know I plan to get into management. I've wanted to be a manger for a few years now so I will 100% be getting into that after the gloves come off. That being said, I don’t want them hanging up for a very long time.

5) Favourite non league ground?
There are many I could think of but I loved playing at Edgeley Park (Stockport). It's crazy how that ground is in non league.

6) Best finisher in non league you've come up against?
Danny Rowe (currently at Fylde) hands down!

7) Best defender you've played with?
Excluding the lads I play with now because they're all up there. I would say Danny Warrender... me and Linny were talking about him the other day saying how good he was.

8) Biggest influence on your game/career?
Not really had anybody that is a huge influence but Johnno and Bern maybe had the biggest impact bringing me to Rammy to play first team football when I was just 18 - that type of trust at a young age for a keeper is huge so I suppose maybe them two.

9) Favourite club (other than Trafford 😁)?
Always have an eye on Rammys results but I’m a Man Utd fan.

10) Favourite professional player of all time?
Buffon! We also have the same birthday.

11) Biggest/best moment in your career so far?
Two promotions. Wining the North West Counties probably edges it just because of how difficult it was winning that league.

12) Most skillfull player at the club?
Me or newbie Dom has a little bit.

13) Favourite drink?
A cup of Yorkshire tea with fresh whole milk. Gin if I’m out.

14) Best trainer at the club?
Me.

15) Worst dressed player at the club?
Darbo/ Palms

16) If you could guarantee only one of the following, which would it be: making the play offs or winning the Manchester Cup?
For me making the Play offs. That was the target at the start of the season and still is for us.

17) Do you have any footballing superstitions?
I have loads, just watch me before every kick off and after every goal we score.

18) Funniest player at the club?
Lin is a very bad man, stay very clear. Very funny man.

19) You've only gone and got yourself in a scrap, which Trafford player do you want by your side?
Scotty 100%!

20) Favourite sport other than football?
I'm pretty good at cricket, it just bores me to death. If it was only 20/20 I'd do it more.

Thanks to Grant for sparing his time and good luck for the rest of the season. Top lad!

Alternative Away Day - Droylsden

6pm Tuesday evening at The Bird, a few liveners are sunk then a bus containing some of the finest specimens of Trafford Fandom hits the road to Droylsden. Our driver took a crazy convoluted route that went past Old Trafford AND The Etihad, but he managed to deliver us to another of Manchester’s great stadiums – The Butchers Arms – with time to neck a couple in The Beehive next door.

For the first half the FunBus Crew took up residence in the Pigeon End of the ground, and we were joined by numerous other Trafford Ultras who’d made the journey by car or tram. We had TWO flags, and our well lubricated voices were in fine fettle as the game kicked off. "He's Shauny" Yeldrem playing right wingback, was having some early joy against The Bloods leftback. In the 13th minute he put in a super cross and Burnzee got on the end of it to put us one up…… but the flag went up. Cue yet another new song from the TFC Choir – “The Liner’s On Spice!”

After 35 minutes another fine Yeldrem cross found the man Burnzeeee on fire again and this time it counted! 1-0 to the Superyellows and scenes of delirious player/fan celebrations amongst the pigeon droppings at the front of the stand!

Within five minutes though Droylsden equalised to make it 1-1 at half time. It had been a close half but we felt Trafford had shaded it and as we ate pies and drank Stella, we were confident our heroes would prevail.

In the 2nd half we positioned ourselves in the wooden stand down the side of the ground and our support of Tom & the Boys continued, even when Droylsden snuck 2-1 ahead thanks to a penalty ("The Ref is on Spice!").

Tom made a couple of changes and you could see Trafford start to take control. Jack "He's Dorney" was pulling the strings, Mini Mason / Linwood / Langy were looking impenetrable, Rydings-Rydings brought a buzz to the midfield with his workrate, Lozzy-T started to stride through the Bloods players like Pogba should, and Ally Brown's first appearance for ages saw renewed energy on the right wing on what was a strength sapping muddy pitch.

With ten minutes to go Yeldrem had gone off but we were singing a completely different "He's Shauny" song because it was "He's Seanie" Sean Miller who crashed a wicked shot past the Droylsden keeper for our equalizer! Magic!

Trafford didn't leave it there though - No sir! Not sure who it was but we hit the post with a late header that would've surely won it. So penalties it was.....

We all hotfooted back to the Pigeon Stand which is the end where the penners would be taken. Droylsden went first...... and "Let's Talk About Shents Baby" saved it like the class keeper he is!

Burnzee was Jonny-on-the-spot again, then Droylsden hit the bar! Trafford in pole position now. Lozzy-T's penner was saved, then the Bloods scored, but two more Trafford bags and a Droylsden miss saw us take the glory with a 3-1 shoot out win. Ace!

We had time for a swift pint in The Butchers Clubhouse before departing back to Urmston in a bus full of happy clappers & singers. A Cup Final reached, FC United waiting at a venue TBA - a rumour started circulating that it could be played in Vegas (Nevada USA, not Staly, Adrian!!) on July 4th with the Manchester FA paying for everyone to travel......hmmmmm. For now though, we piled off the bus and straight into Wetherspoons for a final final pint or three (except Cappy who insisted on going to watch Elvis Murphy in The Three Barrels!) and that was the end of a great night - a school night too! See you on Saturday! #Traffordallovertheworld.

Poker/darts night at Trafford FC

Trafford FC Supporters Club would like to invite you (yes you) to a night of poker and darts on Saturday 10th March, Trafford FC clubhouse from 6pm onwards.

It's always a good laugh and also a chance to take some pennies off the manager and players!

If poker or darts isn't your thing, then still come down for a couple (or more) beers and mingle with supporters and players whilst having a good old chin-wag.

Spread the word, get involved, see you there. #TraffordFC #poker #darts

Alternative Away Day

Away Day Report

Bamber Bridge v Trafford

So after my my last away day report from the GNE match (which didn’t include much about the football) I thought I'd let another of the travelling faithful do the report but none has been forthcoming.  So here’s what I can remember...
Once again Saturday started with an early start for Park Run then out the house at 11:30 to get my carry out from Bargain Booze we were due to meet at the Bird for a swift pre journey pint.  Our executive coach was excellent and we were soon underway with the TFCSC committee duly taking up the back seats.
Decision was taken to go straight to the ground as Bamber have a decent clubhouse with a pool table.  On the way into the ground I was pleased to see the snack bar served chips and something called a butter pie – I’d be steering clear of that.
Peroni on draught in the clubhouse – great.  Two rounds of killer pool – Glinks won the first one not sure who won the second.  Some outrageous flukes all round.
Just had time for pepper steak pie and chips before kick off.  We sang the boys on to the pitch then made our way behind the goal that Trafford were attacking.  Lots of new songs tried out – great support from the fans.  Least said about the football the better but the scoreline didn’t stop the fans – some classics such as “Let’s pretend we scored a goal” and when losing 5 – nil “We’re going to win 6 – 5”.
New feature: “The Adventures of Captain Haddock” – he managed to spill a full pint which he has quite a habit of doing and he nearly missed the bus home.
Plenty of songs sung on the coach on the way home – everyone in a good mood despite the terrible result.  Time for one in the Barking Dog and one in Kelder when we got back to Urmston but things started getting hazy.
Walk home and off to bed...
Update: I found out the next morning I had Salmon en croute (cooked by George) when I got home (still have no recollection of that) and I had left my rucksack in Kelder.
