Away Day @Glossop

Glossop North End v Trafford FC

It was a lively start to Saturday with a swift run around Sale Water Park followed by a chilli sausage barm from Martin’s and round the corner to Saino’s to buy my carry out for the train journey. The taxi turned up on time to ferry the Courtneys and Haddocks to the train station. We were there early so the Piccadilly Tap was the obvious choice – very angry man in there arguing with someone down the phone meant we didn’t hang around too long. The train got us to Glossop in no time (time enough for 2 Punk IPAs), we had an interesting conversation with a girl going on a second date.

Harvey Leonard’s opposite the station was a gold mine for the beer and wine fan. The Friendship provided our next pub stop and a few games of pool which Lynn seemed to fluke some wins at.

At the ground it was straight to the clubhouse for San Migs followed by a very nice steak and ale pie. Surrey Street is a nice little ground with good views over towards the Peak District and there was a reasonable turnout from the Trafford faithful.

The game... So I remember Burnzeee scored and they missed a penalty (the ball came down with snow it). They equalised and it ended up 1-1. On the bright side I won the football card after the game so at least we took £15 off them!

Had a power nap on the train back to Piccadilly and when we were back in Manchester we decided to head to Dogs ‘n’ Dough for a good feed. Somehow, when passing through Canal Street we literally got dragged into a bar by a drag queen – so we had to have a drink in there before heading to D’n’D.

By the time we got there, I was in need of some soft drinks – my drinking for the day was done. Quick game of darts and then a massive hot dog.

Taxi home and off to bed...

(Revived) Supporters' Club

So, after a very successful supporters' meeting last Saturday, the old supporters' club has been revived. There seems to be a genuine buzz about the place and everyone is positive for the future.

Before formally welcoming the new committee, I would firstly like to say a huge thanks to Melody and Tim Stephens, who have done huge amounts for the supporters' club in the past (but now find themselves on the Club Committee)... without them we wouldn't have gotten anywhere in the first place. As well as them, I need to also thank the late 'Sempie' and his partner, Lynda. Again, without them, we wouldn't have been a 'thing' to begin with. You guys are amazing...

So THANKS!

The revived supporters' club is already bouncing with ideas and new members, if you are interested in joining then there is a membership fee of £10 for adults, £5 for pensioners and FREE to under 18's! Please speak to any of the supporters committee members for more information.

During last Saturday's meeting, the following roles were democratically decided:

Chairman: Andy Glinka (Glinks)
Vice Chairman: Kevin Burke (Burkey)
Secretary: Peter McGrath (Muggsy)
Treasurer: Mike Capp (Cappy)

Whilst they form the supporters club committee, the club itself is run as a democracy and any important decisions will be decided by its members and a majority vote rule.

We hope to raise awareness and funds for the club as well as helping raise its profile. Hopefully you can be part of it too!

Twenty Questions with... Keil 'Neil' O'Brien.

'Twenty Questions With...' is a new feature for the supporters' club by where we interview someone related to the club, hopefully on a monthly basis. First up is central defender, Keil O'Brien.

Keil signed for Trafford during pre-season 2017/18. Since a tough start, Keil's performances have been fantastic (as have the whole teams).

Name: Keil O'Brien
Position: Central Defender
Previous Clubs Include: Glossop NE, Mossley, Chorley, Bury and Moreland FC (Australia).

1) Obviously this is your first season at Trafford, what do you make of the club in general so far?
Yeah it's a great club! There's so many fans behind the scenes who do so much for the club which just shows how good a club it is.

2) In terms of yourself personally, how have you settled into the club and do you feel more comfortable playing as part of a back three since the formation change?
It is always tough when you come into a new team I find. After a few games, when you find out other players strengths and weaknesses, it becomes lot easier. Personally, I prefer playing in a three, feels like it's easier to read and take control of the game.

3) You played out in Australia for a while. What was that like?
It was a great life experience! Absolutely loved it! Football just isn't the same as it is in England though!

4) Who has been the biggest influence on your game and why?
There's been a lot of people who have had an influence on me... it's hard to pick out just one.

5) Who is the best player you've ever faced in non-league?
Another tough question! I remember I was 17 or 18 and played against big Deano (James Dean, also at Trafford), it was when he was at Fylde and everyone was talking about him! He was just so strong, awkward and back then, quick. I came off the pitch like i'd been battered! However, we did win 1-0 and after the game I let him out of my pocket.

6) Do you have any football superstitions?
No and never have had any.

7) Who is the best trainer at Trafford?
Scotty (Scott Sephton)... AKA The Terminator.

8) And the worst?
Darbo!

9) You've only gone and got yourself in a scrap, which player/coach from the club do you want by your side?
Deano or Scotty... Can't lose!

10) Do you have a favourite away ground?
Ain't got a clue, sorry!

11) Funniest team mate?
Linny (Paul Linwood). The guy is relentless!

12) Tea or coffee?
Coffee

13) Oasis or Stone Roses?
Oasis

14) Chinese or curry?
Chinese

15) Footy boots of choice?
Nike's

16) First ever car?
The silver surfer! (Renault Clio).

17) Favourite footy team?
United!

18) Favourite ever player?
Roy Keane

19) Favourite sport (other than football)?
Golf

20) Christmas just gone... best gift you received?
Best gift was... being let back in the house after the missus threw me out for not coming back until the morning after my works Xmas doo!

Cheers to Keil for being the first (of many) in a series of club interviews and all the best for the season. Top lad!

Alternative Match report Trafford v Ossett.

You may or may not have heard but the supporters club has had a right good old kick up the bum and back into life. As a result, one of the many things planned is to get the website up and running again. Interviews, match reports, away days and player of the month are just some of the things you can expect. So please keep tuning in.
To kick us off is a supporters club report from Saturday's 1 nil win over Ossett.
Saturday January 6th 2018 was a great day in the history of Trafford FC. No only did Jack “he’s Dorney” score a 92nd minute winner against Ossett Albion, thus extending Trafford’s winning streak to four games and unleashing scenes of unbridled joy on the grass bank behind the Pennybridge Lane goal…. (gasp)…. But also, the Trafford FC Supporters Club was resurrected!
But first, the game. I arrived half an hour late due to a family crisis which, as soon as it was looking like not so much of a crisis, I announced “Right then, I’m off to the First point Shawe View Stadium to watch Trafford!”
As I arrived at the turnstile with the first half just ten minutes left to play, TinTin let me in for a fiver! Bonus! I made my way to the Chassen Road End where the Trafford NHS Ultras were gathered. As I walked past the main stand they sparked up a rendition of “Trafford FC, Trafford FC…” which sounded Ace! There was a good gathering behind the Ossett goalkeeper, and he was getting dogs for his timewasting antics.
The consensus amongst the Trafford Faithful was the game was rubbish – Ossett’s tactics seemed to be to limit the damage, with their goalie in particular fiddling with his shinpads, taking a drink, pulling up his socks etc. etc. before taking a kick. The most exciting thing I saw was the Ossett chairman saying hello to Browny, who then told us that he was Gail Platt’s brother – which prompted a sing-song based on the “Viva Ken Barlow” song…..
At half time I dived into the Press Box and stuck my IPod on so we’d have some tunes in the FPSVS at half time (it being very quiet at the last home game); “You could have chosen a better Oasis tune than this one” I was told by Sniffer when “Force of Nature” came on. It was a random playlist….. hope there’s no Macc Lads on it…… phew!
The 2nd half followed the first in many ways, although I believe I saw more Trafford chances this half minutes (not hard – I missed the first 30 minutes of the game!) Mini Mason had a trademark glancing header just wide, and at one point I’m sure we had five strikers on the pitch (Burnsy, Darbo, Keogh, Josh & Deano) although I might be wrong ‘cos I’d managed to get a few pints down me neck by then. It looked like a frustrating 0-0 draw, but then the Magician himself, Jack Dorney, produced an injury time moment of sheer genius to curl the ball into the top corner! The fans on the grass bank spilled forward and embraced our heroes in a huge pitchside melee, and seconds later the whistle went. What a way to win a game – football at it’s very best!
Afterwards, 30-or-so Trafford fans took up residence in the hospitality lounge, and led by Chairman Glinks we gave a re-birth to the Supporters Club – the aims being to keep improving the support, increase the profile of the club, and raise some funds for specific improvements / projects at the Club. Onwards & upwards on that one. We then headed back to the clubhouse for more beers and to continue singing “He’s Dorney, Dorney Dorney Dorney (all night long)” at the tops of our voices!!

Cheers Muggsy (New supporters secretary)
