Skelmersdale Away

After Tuesdays fantastic away support at FC United, it would be great to take that same support to Saturdays away game at Skelmersdale.
There are still some seats available on the team coach, £10. Please contact myself, Andrew Semple or Foxy if you are interested.

It'd be great to have your support.

Away Days - FC United of Manchester

You can't beat a non-league away day, there is just something about a few of you travelling together to support your local team!
A few more than a few turned out for probably our biggest away day of the season, FC United.
This was the second time we had tried to play this game but due to bad weather, the first game on New Years Day ended in a day out in a Bury pub.

We don't normally do supporters coaches for games based around the Manchester area but since it was FC United, Mr Hornby had arranged a mini bus to take us to the game (via the same pub we had visited on New Years Day).

We left the Nags Head on time at 5.45. I sat next to Richie who had a word with me for mentioning in a previous post that he'd had his hair cut especially for a player of the month presentation. I said I wouldn't mention it again. The journey was full of banter and a can of energy drink mixed with vodka, kindly supplied by one of Hornby's mates, who was dressed in FC United clobber (I forget his name, sorry!).
We soon approached Bury and due to some bad directions, we saw more of Bury than we had planned. Finally, I came to my senses and gave the driver the postcode for The White Boar pub instead of trying to remember the way from last time! A couple of beers and a game of killer later we set off to Gigg Lane. The rain had started coming down. By the time we got into the social club, we were informed that there was a pitch inspection going on as we spoke. Not again, surely?!

It got to 7.40 and we took the plunge and paid in. They couldn't call it off now. Into the ground and we were ushered into the away section where, according to FC United, there were 92 of us. It sounded more like 292. The atmosphere was good, the start to the game less so. 6 minutes in a 1-0 down! More worryingly (or perhaps luckily baring in mind we were losing), the rain was now coming down by the bucket load. It resembled the Amazon during monsoon season!

1-0 down yet we still sang. We were going to enjoy this game regardless. But we needn't had worried about the score as the team soon picked up and started playing some decent stuff and after one previous good chance from a free kick, our second effort was right on the money. The money being Ste Mason's head! Boom! 1-1 and cue celebrations, which can be seen on YouTube and yours truly stands out waving my scarf like an idiot! I have since shown this clip to my class at work and I am now officially famous according to 31 8 year olds!!!

The 1st half came and went with both teams fairly even. A half time chat with our forever suspended Andy Smart and an expensive bottle of cider later, and the 2nd half was under way. The weather dominated most of the half as it continued to batter it down! FC United did manage 2 great chances but we looked dangerous on the counter attack and from set pieces. Before we knew it we were into the last 5 minutes and the game had an unnerving feel to it. We all started thinking back to the home game where FC United pinched all 3 points in the 90th minute! Luckily, no more chances came FC's way and we saw out the game for a valuable point and up to 14th in the table!

The team and management had ONCE AGAIN, done us proud. I just hope we did them proud. We might not be anywhere near as big as FC United but our passion for Trafford from our fans is unrivaled. It was a great away day!

Many high fives and see you Saturday's later, I hitched a lift home with Taxi Tim, I knew the mini bus was off back to the Nags Head and I had a class to teach the next morning. For once I made the sensible decision (it had nothing to do with being scared of the missus after the the trouble I got into the last time I went on an away day and was out for 13 hours!)

Good luck to our neighbours and friends, FC United for the rest of the season.

Ratings

Value for money: 9 (great game considering the appalling conditions)
Beer/Food: Beer 1. Nice tasting cider but far too expensive (Bury FC prices rather than FC United prices I guess)
Ground: 7. Clealry a professional ground but just didn't feel right staring at an empty stadium!
Man of the Match: Martyn Mason Nia Beadle!
Fans: 10 good banter and WE were in great voice/spirits!
Referee: 9. Actually thought he was the best I've seen at this level.

100 Club - Shelton Payne

Well done to Shelton Payne who received his TFCSC 100 club mug before today's game against Frickley. The mug is obviously a good omen as Shelton went on to score without question the best goal of the season so far.

Shelton was given the mug by our very own Andrew Semple, who celebrated his 21st birthday today and Megan, who is the daughter of our top sponsors KMD, who also celebrated a birthday this week! From all at the supporters club, happy birthday Sempie and Megan and well done again Shelton.

Player(s) of the Month - December

As previously announced, TFCSC's players of the month for December were Nia Bayunu and Callum Jones.

Before today's game against Frickley, Tim Stephens and Richie (who was sporting a cracking hair cut especially for the occasion) presented Nia and Callum with their bottle of fizz. Unfortunately Callum was suspended for today's game but winning the award clearly spurred Nia on as he had another belting game ;-)

Well done Nia and Callum and from all at the supporters club, good luck for the rest of the season.

Man of the Match v Frickley

Did that just happen?!!!

Any kind of win today would have been brilliant but to witness probably the best goal I will ever see in the flesh as well was more than a bonus!
If you were one of the lucky 200+ fans there then you know what I am on about. My words simply would not do it justice! It was too good!

For that goal alone Shelton Payne could easily have been chosen as the TFCSC MotM, but there were other contenders too.

Nia Bayunu was immense at the back and carried on from where he did last time out. Michael Oates scored two goals and held the ball up well, Tommy Read was solid and made one or two great saves (we'll forget about the air shot ;-), Chris Palmer was ace in midfield and young 17 year old Clev Beadle slotted in nicely at right back, but new TFCSC member, Simon Benson chose, and rightly so, Martyn Andrews as the MotM!

Considering we were missing 4 first team players through suspension (2 of them midfielders), we were in need of a big performance from Martyn today and he stood up to the plate winning every header, controlling the centre of the park and scoring what was up until then, the goal of the game!

Well done Martyn and the rest of the lads and we now look forward to two big away games. My only disappointment from today's game was not getting to see our new wonder sub get on the pitch... who is this Garry Vaughan anyway?

Player of the Month - December

A little later than normal, but at last nights meeting the player of the month for December was decided... Well actually players!
Yes, we couldn't be split between Nia Bayunu and Callum Jones. Like the team, both Nia and Callum have been fantastic these last few weeks. Its great to see Nia back to his best, after a difficult start and Callum has slotted in at the back like he's been there forever... maybe that has helped Nia too?!

Anyway well done to you both and see you all Saturday for 3 more points please!

Guess the weight competition...

As you (may) know, the supporters club set up a clothes bin inside shawe view, by where anyone is welcome to leave any items of clothing, bedding etc.

We are having it emptied this week and are running a competition along side it...

... the aim is simple. Guess the weight of the items inside (or nearest guess to actual weight), and the winner receives a free ticket to a forth coming Trafford FC home fixture.

To take part, all you have to do is email or tweet the supporters club your guess and the first person with the correct answer wins. The competition closes midnight this Friday (17th Jan) and the winner announced on Saturday.

Cheers and goodluck

FC UTD Min Bus

A mini bus has been organised to take supporters to the FC United game on Tuesday 21st January.

There are currently only 4 seats left on the mini bus so DM  me quick if you would like a seat. If demand is high, we may organise a 2nd mini bus.

The price per person will depend on numbers but won't be anymore than £8 and maybe as little as £5 if we fill the bus... Bargain!

The mini bus will be leaving the Nags Head at 5.45, a couple of beers in the White Boar (near FC's ground) then on to the match.

Away Days - Worksop Town

Worksop Away Day  11 January 2014

Wow another year gone and we are back on our Trafford Travels. To be honest I didn’t except much from today, Worksop are riding high in the table and although we played with true grit last week our discipline was a bit wayward and these “more experienced teams” seem to know how to play on that. Anyway I always “travel in hope rather than expectation”
Enough negatives, a big smile spread across my face at the sight on Tommy Read getting on board. I can’t help it – he is a favourite of mine! Players and fans arrived followed by our manager and a clean shaven Goodie, no more prickly kisses – well that’s what Vaughnie said anyway.
Off we set under Tony’s care, a stop a junction 19 – sadly no Smarty – but Flash, Rory and Luke made up our terrific team. We had a very speedy uneventful journey to Worksop. Cappy was having a dry January so unusually he hadn’t done much research on pubs but he did have his new darts with him so all was not lost – he would lead the troops on a tour of the local hostelries after all.
We arrived at 1pm to a warm greeting and cold temperatures. News the club house was open cheered some and Cappy took the rest off exploring the delights on offer in Worksop. We paid our £10 at the turnstile and went in to a very nice modern clubhouse, slightly confused by the Parramore shirt hanging there. The tickets selling, charming chairman explained Worksop had owned the ground till financial backing disappeared and from 2008 to 2011 they were like nomads, playing at 3 different grounds. They now rent the ground on match days from Worksop Parramore – very sad how non-league clubs are so often picked up, toyed with then dropped by money people.  We might not yet have the posh clubhouse but thankfully we are run by football lovers not bankers.
Well enough politics – what was the food like. I can report the chips and gravy were excellent. There was a good selection of pies, peas, curry etc. but Taxi Tim was upset they didn’t have his favourite match day hot dogs. He was more upset in the second half when he couldn’t get a hot drink because the snack bar closed after half time.   The ground itself seemed quiet narrow with a main stand on the left and a small seating area behind the dugout.  The Trafford faithful spread out as there was no natural gathering place. Out came the teams – Trafford unusually in white for an away day due to Worksop playing in yellow (extra kit washing for Tin Tin) and off we went. Well it didn’t start too well, we were caught napping after a corner and in less than 15 minutes we were 1 down.  If it was cold before it felt freezing now. Lots of half chances followed for both teams, we were doing ok but still losing.  Half time approached and a warm in the clubhouse. Cappy was not a happy man – their goalie should have been sent off, handled outside the area, if we had stood together the ref might have given it, disgrace, shambles – you get the picture. Rory’s dad came in and he was convinced of the same. Second half we all agreed stand together behind the flag!!  We might get something out of this.
Off we went again, Shelton was causing them problem, Oatsey was working hard, they were pulling and pushing us causing me to shout refereeeeeeeee. And then a thunderbolt arrived from the foot of Schoey, the ball flew miles – well 35 yards – into the back of the net.  What a goal, what a point, what joy.  We all warmed up a bit, shouts of Come on Trafford, Shelts danced round 3 or 4 players but the ball just went wide.  We were the team on top – then he did it, on 83 minutes, that lad  Shelton scored!!  The players danced, we danced and jumped for joy. The Worksop fans started leaving.  7 minutes can be a long time but even with Nia limping – for his mum to video on her new phone – we not only hung on we pressed for more. There was a debut for Mark Derbyshire, our Sunday team gentle giant, he looked very good in a first team shirt to the female fans anyway.  Final whistle, Sempie doing dad dancing on the terrace while I grinned and clapped like a demented seal. Oh Trafford we do love you.  The travelling White army clapped and cheered then clapped again – so much excitement we nearly left the flag behind.  Don’t panic – I rescued it.
The clubhouse was a happy place although Cappy is worried he may have to stay alcohol free to keep the wins coming.
After much joy and well done lads we hitched a lift with the Travelling Stephens – singing all the way home.
Well done you Whites!!!!

My personal Man of the Match was the ever dangerous, dancing Shelton Payne

Man of the Match v Kings Lynn Town

So we lost... but sometimes it is in defeat you learn more. Yesterday Trafford showed a lot of great fighting team spirit, a little ill-discipline and some more fighting spirit!

To be down to 10 men after 23 minutes was tough, a daft red card but an instinctive reaction from Callum (although a great diving save I might add!)

To be honest, 5 minutes before half time and 2 down, I was fearing the worst. Then on the stroke of the half time whistle, Nia finished expertly into an empty net. 1-2... to be honest I still thought we were going to be in for a tough 2nd half!

I was right, but not because Kings Lynn dominated the play and had chance after chance. It was tough because we deserved so much more than we got! The lads played like the team with an man extra. We stood up, battled and played some great stuff... then it got harder! Down to 9 men. Rory Fallon, who had been superb was harshly sent off for 2 yellows, the 1st of which was for not being 10 yards away from a free kick (at this level that is harsh considering all the pushing that the Kings Lynn players were allowed to get away with!)

Still, we were on top. If only we could force the ball home. Myself and Melody tried our best to make up the numbers but the ball just wouldn't go over the line no matter how many times it threatened to do so.

Maybe it would be easier with 8 men. Well we were soon to find out as Tom Schofield was shown his 2nd yellow for a late tackle (no arguements there!) Yet we were still the better side. The boys did us proud and the never die attitude of the players, inparticularly Nia Bayunu was why we applauded the team off the pitch and that is why Nia Bayunu is Man of the Match!

Nia has been ace these last few games and if Trafford can play like they did with 10, 9 and 8 men when we have 11 we will be winning more than we lose!

Well done Nia and well done Trafford. So many positives in defeat!
